05/29/2007: Open Letter to the Immigrants and Their Supporters Relating to CIR
• As everyone knows by now, the CIR involves diverse immigrant groups and the ongoing compromise process involves the process of negotiation between the far right political forces and the far left political forces. In this process, the immigrants can initiate certain acts that can trigger a serious backfire from the opposing forces. The so-called compromise agreements of the two party leaders and the White House and the ongoing amendment process reflect that there is a strong resentment to the employment-based immigrants, especially by the far left forces. Accordingly, the employment-based immigration reform is currently under attack by both left and right forces in that the proposed overhaul of the legal immigration system by the far right political forces also turned out to be to restrict foreign immigration workers in the long run. In this regard, the illegal immigrants are attacked by only one force, to wit, the far right political forces, but the legal immigrants, particularly employment-based immigrants are surrounded by three forces, to wit, the far left political forces backed by the labor unions, the illegal immigrant supporters, and more importantly, family-based immigrant supporters who believe in the family unity. Without doubt, no matter how the CIR is amended in the next one week or so, it appears that the employment-based immigrants may turn out to be the ultimate victims in this legislative process. Some good lessons to learn from this tragic event.
