Can immigration deny my parents application?

My parents came to the US last September on visitor's visas. Since I got my US citizenship Oct. last year, I filed petitions for them to adjust their stauts. The petitions were approved, and we applied for permanent resdience for them. My mom had her interview two days ago. The officer who interviewed my mom was not friendly and he said he will send his decision by mail. I am the only child, can they deny my mom's application? Thanks!!
