Does B2 Extension Take Long?

My parents' B2 stay extension application was received by USCIS two weeks ago, but I've not received the receipt (I am not even sure whether there is such a receipt for a B2 extension), nor has the check been cashed. Is this normal for B2 extension applications? Thanks.
