When should I file H1B extension?

My 140 has been approved and I haven't filed 485 due to priority date. My current H1B will expire by Sept 07. When should I file H1B extension? My lawyer told me that I can file by June or July and I am afraid it may be too late. Any advice on this? Thanks a lot.
