your lawer is right

legally, you were out of status right after you got laid off and should leave the US immediately. however some people may still stay for one or two weeks, but definitely not for 50 days, no to mention 180 days.

having said hat, even you lawyer filed a H1 transfer for you, your petition will most likely be denined.
