according to my experience:
at least most, if not all, of the information on the official website is up to date and accurate.
If you have questions that are not answered after reading the official website, the best way to contact a consulate is via fax. Prepare a few possible answers to your question and let them do a multiple choice, they will circle the answer and fax back to you.
I have done this twice and they replied both times.
