If you remain in the same company that sponsored your H1, you don't need to do anything, just keep working and studying, full time or part time.
If you change job, please trasfer (or apply for) your H1 to the new company and just go ahead to take courses in college full time or part time.
In any case, it's perfect OK to be a student, full time or part time while working with H1 and/or I-485 pending.
