Ask Xiaobaitu for help

My H1b is based on a junior position right now, which needs only a B.S. degree. May I apply for GC through an engineer position which requires B.S. plus 5 yr experience? Some people said that the position for GC is not necessary for current job but for prospective one. Is it right?
