AP is enough to go back CHINA

Hi, I am a H-1B holder. I just filed my I-485 and I-140. Now, I want to apply AP to visit CHINA. However, my friend told me that I have to apply EAD also. AP alone cannot gurantee the return to USA.

Is this correct? Thanks sincerely,
