Since EB2 is not current for me yet, as I understand I can still apply for AP under my pending 485, right?

One of my lawyer friends said no, because the visa number for NIW is not current for me, thus I cannot apply even for AP.
--not right, you can apply and should apply AP when your 485 pending.
