485: service request?

I called USCIS today to inquire my 485 status (RD: 6/22/06, and current NSC processing date is 7/13/06. I haven't been receiving any update for more than 2 months. First FP was taken in late Oct 2006). I was asked a lot of about my address, country of birth, etc, which was weired I think cause those should all be in my application. Finally the guy give me a ref number, and told me that
- they'll put a "service request" to NSC
- I should be contacted within 45 days
- If not, I should call USCIS again, with the ref number.

Does anyone know what this all about -- what does it mean to put a "service request"? Any implication?
