xiaobaitu, please help: AP/EAD question

I was a little confused by various sources of information about the EAD use after reenter US using AP. Fact is, I was in H1B and recently use AP to reenter US (and my I-94 card was stampled A.O.S.).Now the question is: do I HAVE TO notify human resources to change my work permit to EAD and abandon my H1B, or are there ANY other options?

Another related question: to renew my EAD, do I have to rely on my employer to do that or I can do it myself? If I changed job during my 485-pending period (after 180 days of 485 application) and use EAD to work for the new employer, can I renew my EAD myself? How many months before expiration should I the application?
