請教：等待綠卡背景檢查期間可否工作？

請教大家：
我辦理家屬綠卡（我先生是美國籍），現在在背景檢查階段已有１５個月。請問背景檢查一般需要多久？有什莫辦法查問以及加速它的進程？在此期間我可否工作？是否需要申請工作許可？
