Do you mean your case number in USCIS is different with in DOS? If you know they had already ted recommedation letter, you should find the case number in that letter, right? If you have any number, you can try to go to Local USCIS office to inquire it.

I also lost the first approve notice of J1 waive because of changing address. Then I called them and got it finally. But I don't remeber do I get receipt from USCIS or not. The different thing is the contact address I left is my office address, but they must send the approve notice to home address.
