I think Xiaobaitu is on vacation. Please give advise.

I sent back the RFE (marriage certificate) for I-485 in early October this year and was told that a decision would be made within 60 days. Therefore, I waited till October 30 to send the renewal of my EAD (expires January 03, 2007). Now my I-485 is still pending and I was told it is under Security Check. and my new EAD has not been processed. I guess there will be a gap between my new EAD and the old one. Does anyone know that whether I can work legally during this gap or where I can go to get some US legal documentation to support my working authorization during the gap? -- or, do I have to tell my employer to take me off from the payroll for a while?
