For mine, I just went in and paid with my credit card. Then I received the result from them within a week. (with a sealed envelope that I sent to USCIS and a copy for me).

I don't know what is going on with your case. Why can't she tell you the result over the phone? My nurses and doctor called me at home about my negative results for other tests(not related with immigration)
