For employment-based GC, you are expected to make a whole lot contributions to this country, instead of being a burdon. Staying unemployed is no good, getting assistence is worse.
How bad it is? It's hard to say, immigrational officers have their rights to pick up anything. It probably is not a big deal, and I do think you'll be fine finally, but a 'responsible' officer may want to interview you personally and question you everything.
