Question: I140/485/EAD

I'm H1, currently in the very begninning stage of GC application---my school is posting ads for my LC, still 6 weeks to go. Assume I can get LC sometime in August, then file I140/485 in September, when can I and my hu*****and get EAD?

The problem is that my hu*****and is F1, he plans to apply OPT starting on June 1st, 2004. I wonder if EAD taks very long time, maybe he will have a period of time next year when he has no work authorization (assume he has a job and no H1). So, is it wise to apply OPT for June or should postpone that until a job offer is coming?
