Your I-485 has nothing to doo with your landing. Canadian INS should be fine with that.

The only thing that you need to think about is how to get back to US. If you have holding H1/H4, you should be fine. If you are F1 holder, you need to apply for AP first. I was an F1 when I landed Canada. When I got back, US INS checked the system and found that I have ted my I-485. Finally they took my AP to let me in.

So if the time schedule is flexible, you could land first, just to make things simpler.
