AP，護照, pending 485receipt should be enough. However, you might also want to take something else:
1. Driver's license.
2. Previous I-20, including old and new one.

You also need to think about your status after you come back with AP if you haven't thought about that yet. I have to use my EAD to continue my job as research assitant. If you have the same problem, you need to apply for EAD before you leave. therefore, you can start work with EAD after you come back.

If you use Northwest airline, there is a special lane for AP holder: lane 37. Go there directly and it will save you time wating for INS.

Relax. It is very easy to get in with AP. I am really glad that I came back to visit my family in China while I still don't have my GC. I don't want to waste my time to be with them due to the lack of GC. I had a wonderful time back in China.
