Dear Xiaobaitu and other experts Please help!

I'm currently holding a H1 visa and my hu*****and has a H1 as well. I want to quit my job at the end of May so I can go back to China with my kids,and I want to come back before the school starts.

What is the best way for me to get my status changed?

1. If I apply in US by form I-539, when do I need to stop working and how long will it take?

2. If I go to Mexico and apply so that I can get h4 visa stamped on my passport. Is it risky? And will I be able to specify the switch date on Form-539 or it has to start from the visa interview date?

3. Is it risky for me to go back China to get a H4 visa? If I do that, when do I need to leave US? The day I quit?
