為友求助關於out of stay和illegal stay區別

我友，F1身份來美讀博，與老板鬧翻後一學期沒再注冊，距今半年有餘。請問這個情況是out of stay還是illegal stay，據說前者有離境後三年之內不得再入境美國的限製？該友最近醒悟，欲申請同一學校的re-admission回國簽證再來，是否能夠迅速返美，還應該注意什麽問題？謝謝。
