Questions on Alien number

I have not stayed in the US for 5 years. This is just the start of my 5th year. So I guess I am not a resident alien yet. Right?

However, I applied OPT. And on my OPT card, I found there is an A number. What is this A#? Is it the same as the Alien Registration Number? Thanks you very much. (BTW, I never did the registration for alien).
