I don't think you need go back China if you lost your current job. You can stay here to find another job and you can transfer to H4 in USA if needed but I don't think it's necessary. If you are the primary applicant for I-485, you need find another job so that you can have H1B transfer from you current job or use your EAD to work on that Job as far as your are in the same field.
