You better get your re-turn visa first before leaving for China IN CASE you might get denied or be put in background checking process in China. My friend who is working with me at the same top company(no sentive technology issue), who was hold in BJ for three months for background check last year, he was also in the processing of green card pending. You can try to get your re-turn H1B in DOS, it takes about three months.
