As long your H4 application is filed before your H1 expires, you will have no status problem. However you need to discuss with school to see if they let you in with a receipt instead of appoval notice.
File 539 to do the conversion. You can do it your self or hire a laywer to do it. You need include your recent employment letter or pay stubs to prove your current status. The form contains very good instruction.
