I94快過期了.請教

我的I94寫的H1過期時間是8月30號,2006. 更糟糕的是,我剛被解雇了,公司會通知移民局停止我的H1身份. 所以我今天趕緊申請了H4身份,移民局可能明天會收到我的郵寄申請表.我估計在I94過期之前,我的H4還不會拿到批準.
那麽,
1. 我可以在美國繼續合法呆嗎,等候其間,我是什麽身份呢,
2. 還有,如果近期內我找到了新工作,我可以辦理H1轉換嗎,以什麽身份呢.
情況很複雜,急死我了,請各位提出建議.我提前感謝大家...
