It is almost impossible to change to H1B within the US in the future. You have to use EAD to work even for employment on campus. However, if you travel, you have to use AP to come back. You can not come back on F1, which invalid your 485.
So far, it is in the gray area if F1 exists after filing 485. However, many people success in changing to H1B from F1 within the US after filing 485. This indicates that CIS may recognize dual status of F1 and AOS.
After using AP, your F1 is formally gone.
