If you alrady have the Visa stamp in your passport and it is not expiring soon, you can go back. If you don't have it yet, then it's better to apply for Advance Parole before you go back.
Besides, you can apply Advanced Parole without I140 approved, as long as you have filed both I-485 and I-140, you can apply for AP.

I just came back from Asia (not China) with my H1-B visa (3 months remaining, and I have the the H1-B stamp in my passport). I have filed both I-485 and I-140 before I left USA. I didn't apply for Advance Parole because it takes around 3 months to get approved and I wanted to go back during the christmas break.

You consider what option you should choose.
