when you file I-485 for green card, you need to answer the question in Part 3, line 2 'Have you received public assistance in the United States.....'

I am sorry to hear about your situation. My suggestion is that you get a better health insurance paln that offers no limit for coverage, so you don't worry about medical bills. Health is the most important thing for everybody.
