Do EAD by yourself or lawyer? when?

My H-1b is going to be expired in 10/2006.My I485 is pending in TSC with RD in 01/2006 and PR in 02/2000.

When should I apply EAD? Now or I can wait for another month since TSC is processing case in 12/2005, just one month before my case?

Do it by myself or lawyer? Lawyer charges $150.
