May I apply for H1 extension after 6 yrs with I140 approved and

I am working at one research center affiliated with university.My I140 (Eb1, submitted to VSC May 05)was approved at Dec 05 and I485 keeps pending since May 05. And my second H1 will expire on Dec 06. While I hope my I485 could be approved before this Dec., I have to worry about the question: shall I extend my H1 or apply EAD sice then.

The center HR told me that, since my I 140 was approved and I485 pending, I could not apply for H1 extension any longer. Is it true? She suggested me to turn to EAD, while I prefer to H extension.

Are some experts familiar with regulations? thanks in advance.
