How to keep her H1B valid?

My friend have H1B and 485 pending. Her I 140 was submiited on December, 2004 and got approved on April 2005. She has to go back to China in August for some issues. Her boss promised her to keep her position for 6 months. How to keep her H1B valid and get her GC later?
