For status transfer, you need to be in US. For somehow, if your purpose to stay in US is different then you need to do status transfer, for example, from F1(full time student) to H1B(skilled worker).

In your case, have your wife to get a H4 visa from US consulate will be better and quicker as long as her figure has not changed too much. And don't forget your marriage certificate need to be in English and don't mention she is pregnant during visa interview. You also need to include her in your insurance package, so do it quickly.
