You can not work until he gets PERM and 140 approved, and 485 submitted.
Usually it takes 2-3 months to prepare PERM, 1-2 months to get it approved, 1-2 months to get 140 approved. So if everything goes on smoothly, you might get EAD around Oct next year. If you are lucky, PERM and 140 all have lots of cases approved in days. However, there are also lots of cases delayed by hr and uscis for no reasons for months or years. So, keep praying and hope the best happen to you.
