Help with H1B and AP

Dear all:

My I140 was approved and I485 is pending. I plan to go back China this Summer. I have not received my AP yet (more than 3 months). So I'm planning to apply H1b visa. Someone told me that if you travel without AP, you give up your I485 application. Is it true? Please help. Thanks in advance.
