I don't think that is is really helpful that you hire someone in your area. You are not going to meet the lawyer in person even if he is closer. Most likely, you will have to contact him/her via e-mail, phone or fax. Therefore distance should not be an issue when you choose a lawyer.
At the same time, now all of the I-140 need to be sent to NSC and some of that will be transferred to TSC. Under this circumstance, distance means even less.
