Luck is more important in cases like this --> that is, which officer that is adjudicating your case. Quite a few less qualified cases with post-doc like university positions also got EB1b approved easily without RFE, because their officers don't pick on this requirement. You can search past AAO decisions and find cases like yours--research professors (or stronger than yours, with every dean, professor, and executive from university guarantee that they are permanent positions) and AAO upheld the service center's denial decision.
