Another way is this, if there is any possiblity that illegal immigrant to get the green card, this way you will not lose it.

One go to canada find a job to support the other stay illegally in USA. The problem for you is that the other may be delied entrance to Canada when there is no possibility to ever ligalized again in USA, but the one in Canada can apply for family reunion. It is going to be a long process, make sure you guys can sustain this long separation. It is not going to be easy.
