Can I use AP and still keep HI status while coming back? Thanks

I plan to use AP next month (this May) to visit China. What kind of material should I bring with me? My AP is based on the approval of my hu*****and's I140. But I also have my H1 visa? Can I use HI visa while coming back from China? Thanks in advance.
