XIAOBAITU,MYTWOCENTS,OR OTHER EXPERTS, ABOUT a# NUMBER

The A# Nos are confused me. My wife had a A# No on her work permit card wich is 9 digits. a A# No on my I 485 application recipt is 9 digits too, but A# Nos on my wife and son's i 485 application recipt are only 8 digits, Are these right?

my questions are
1. A# No can be 8 or 9 digits?
2. Everybody can have more than one different A# No?
