Return ticket is not required at you go through custom. The key issue is your "mannerism" as you answer other questions - why you come to US, for how long, and where to stay... etc. Officers will not ask you to produce tickets unless they suspect something else. If they do ask this question, tell them that you are going to order the ticket soon...
