How long will it take from NIW filing to get green

card approved generally?

There are two ways that I can go:
1. get H-1B,then apply for green card, maybe take forever
or
2. take another 3 or 4 years to get a Ph.D, then apply for NIW.
I want to know the related information first, then make a decision.
