You may talk to your lawyer to check your case status since you paid the lawyer. You may also register to USCIS status check service with your 140 and 485 receipt numbers.

My suggestion is: don't check with your sponsor on the withdrawal issue. By law, the sponsor has to notify USCIS, so it cannot say no withdrawal. If your case is withdrawn, the online status should show something.

You may wait for more than 6 months and see the situation fo your case. Be careful, you lose your current non-immigration status if your ono-immigration status has no work permit and you use EAD to work. So you better prepare the backup plan for your legal status if your case is withdrawn.

I have a friend who was laid off within 180 days of 485 filing. He found another company with similar job. He asked his lawyer if he could take that job. His lawyer didn't say Anything. He took that job. After 180 days of his 485 filing, he asked his lawyer if he needs to file AC21 to notify USCIS his employer changed. His lawyer didn't say Anything and didn't do it. Later he got his green card without problem.
