H-1b transfer; passport

Dear all:

Have another urgent question, please let me know your thoughts on this: your input is highly appreciated!

I am in the process of H-1b transfer, and I just realized that I don't have a valid passport. I have been in the US for the past 5 years and never needed a passport to travel so I never bothered to renew it. Is this going to be a problem? Any suggestions?
