No, you don't have to give the credit card number
the correct number is 202-663-1225, I called them this morning, it takes while to speak with the visa specialist. after you give them your passport number and your first and last name, they will let you know what is going on with your passport. in my case, they said it's approved and waiting for print, should be received within this week. huge relieve...
