Whether or not to tell visa officer you want to do interview is a really complex problem. A friend (PR) of mine applied for B visa at Montreal a number of year ago for an interview and his visa was rejected because the VO thought he wanted to work in US and then immigration tendency?
It might be safer to apply for B visa for visiting your friends. I did so last year. If you have a job in canada, your visa will be normally approved. If you do not have a job in canada, then maybe there will be a problem. It really depends on your luck.
Notice that not every Canada PR will get 10 year B visa. This is not true. My first B visa (issued in Halifax) is 6 months and one entry, second B (issued in Halifax) is one year and multiple, finally the third B (issued in Toronto) is ten year and multiple, but I do not need it any more. So it seems that US need to test you first. If you can be trusted, then they give you more. Unconfortabel business?
