Whatever format(petiton letter, personal statement, or cover letter) is used for your NIW application, you should
1) give a detaled deion of your wonderful past achievements in research and academics, and their IMPACTS in your area.
2) address the three prongs of NIW (intrisic merit, national scope and labor certificate issue).
3) use recommnedation letters to support the great imapcts of your work on national interest, collect the evidence (any academic help you provided or requested by your peers in addition to your paper citations) to support the imapcts of your work on your peer's study or work.
Cite the words where they are needed from your recommendation letters and present your supporting evidence properly and relevantly. Then you will be ok.
