My advice:

Work closely with your lawyer. Ask him what could be the worst scenario after the denial and do your best to avoid it. Remember, once on the removal procedure (way far ahead of a real removal order(遞解令)), you are not eligible for 485 and may need to fight over the immigration court and even federal court. The entire process is costly and time consuming.

Your case is different from millions who enter the states with a visa, decide to stay and therefore become black. INS does not know them and does not have the resource to pursue everyone of them. You actual voluntarily told INS that your had been out of status. They know you at this time.

Take the issue seriously but do not panic. Time is on your side. It is unlikely anything will happen so soon before next Feb. But you need prepare for the worst. Good Luck!
