Let say, your have a Chinese Passport, that is going to expired in 1 1/2 years, and you have applied and become a Canadian.
yes, you can still use your Chinese passport go to China, until the expiration date.
When you come back, just show your Canadian passport.
Canadian allow dual citizenship.
